A 24-year-old man from Pleasantville died early Tuesday morning in a one-car accident along the Black Horse Pike, according to Egg Harbor Township police.

Joel A. Zelaya was driving east at 3:58 a.m. when his car left the road and collided into the Hampton Inn sign, Capt. Ted Kammer said. The car had extensive damage and Zelaya was trapped inside. Kammer said members of the Farmington Volunteer Fire Company used the "jaws of life" to remove Zelaya. Zelaya, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered a fatal injury and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident via telemetry by AtlantiCare Advanced Life Support, Kammer said.

Kammer said Zelaya is originally from Honduras and it is unclear if he has any family members in the area.

Traffic along the Black Horse Pike was reduced to a single-lane for about four hours to investigate and clear the accident.

Anyone who witnessed or has any information about the accident should contact the Egg Harbor Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit at 609-926-2648.
