Patrol Operations

Patrol Operations are directed by the Operations Bureau commander. Patrol Officers are responsible for patrolling their assigned areas for crime prevention and reduction, enforcing traffic laws, and responding to emergencies from the public. The staffing of each patrol shift will vary based on a variety of factors, including the seasonal time of year, weather or intelligence events, directed patrols, and data driven policing. Our Department augments patrols with K-9 Units, Traffic Patrol, motorcycle patrol, and other specialized resources based on need. We look to make the most effective use of our existing resources through programs like the Bicycle Officer program, where patrol vehicles are equipped with Bicycles, which Officers will ride through neighborhoods or other limited access areas at times during their regular shift.

K-9 Corps

Egg Habor Township is the home of several K-9 Police Officers with partners that assist in many areas of law enforcement, including suspect tracking, controlled substance identification, and explosives detection. These canine partners are regularly available and additional units can be deployed as necessary.

Bicycle Unit

One of the initiatives that has been an asset to Patrol Operations is the addition of bicycle capabilities to the regular patrol activity. For many years, the Department has trained and equipped patrol officers to have a bicycle with their patrol vehicles. At points in time, the Officers will park their vehicle and utilize the bicycle for community patrol operations. This provides a unique avenue of approach, and provides a police presence to areas that vehicles cannot access.

Motorcycle Unit

The layout of the Township we patrol represents unique challenges to law enforcement. While some areas are more heavily populated, the Township also retains a rural character in the southern section of town. The Traffic Safety Unit coordinates the operation of the Department's motorcycle patrol. Road Motorcycle units are a routine patrol asset. The Department also maintains off-road equipment, and deploys that equipment as necessary to provide access and law enforcement to meet the needs of a unique situation.

Traffic Safety

The Traffic Safety Unit is tasked with the analysis of Traffic Safety initiatives, major accident investigations, and provides patrol assistance. For information on Traffic, please see their page by clicking here or on the menu under "Units".
