Volunteer's In Policing

The Egg Harbor Township Police Department
is looking for a few good....volunteers.

The Police Department held their Citizens Police Academy - Class #2 from June 3rd through July 8th, 2008. The Citizen’s Police Academy is a 30-hour block of instruction designed to give the public a knowledge of the Egg Harbor Township Police Department. It consisted of ten classes which were held twice a week from 6:30pm to 9:30pm. The instruction was comprehensive, and each week a different area of the department is covered. Instruction was provided by the officers and supervisors who work in the particular area being covered.

Covered in this course were such topics as Organizations and Functions of the Police Department, Overview of the Criminal Justice System, Criminal and Traffic Law, Searches, Functions of Patrol Operations, Reporting to Records, Internal Affairs, the Judicial System, Weapons, Emergency Response Team, K-9, various programs in the Juvenile Community Services Unit, PAL, Explorers, and Domestic Violence Response just to name a few.

For those who successfully completed the Academy, we will be asking them to donate a few hours a week in a field that they may have expertise in. It could with computers, filing, or working with the Traffic unit and moving Radar trailers from location to location.

We have had 11 graduates to this point an many are now serving as Volunteers in Policing. The Police Department is looking to hold a 3rd session in 2012.

The selection process will consist of a background check and interview.
