Egg Harbor Township Police Department

Bicycle Patrol Unit

The Egg Harbor Township Police Bicycle Patrol consists of members of the Operations Bureau. They undergo specialized training enabling them to safely use their mountain bicycles throughout Egg Harbor Township. The unit operates around the clock and all year long.

The Bicycle Patrol Unit may be found in commercial areas such as the Shore Mall and other shopping centers, car dealer lots, and industrial parks. The unit also patrols residential neighborhoods and wooded areas. Would be criminals never know where a bicycle patrol officer might turn up.

Unit members also provide demonstrations of their abilities and speak on bicycle safety to many groups and the public in general. We support safe riding and the use of bicycle helmets. Bicycle patrol officers are very accessible and encourage people throughout the community to approach them so we may provide even better service to the public.

The Equipment

The bicycle patrol unit uses Trek 6000 and Gary Fisher Big Sur mountain bikes. The bikes are equipped with headlamps, tail lights, and very loud battery powered horns. Each bike also has a rear mounted bag containing extra inner tubes, emergency repair tools, and of course a ticket book!

The bicycles are carried on the rear of the officer's patrol cars using Thule two bike Rack-n-Lock carriers.
