Drunk Driving Enforcement

The Egg Harbor Township Police Department will continue the use of mobile patrols and roadway checkpoints this year in our continuing efforts to deter, detect, arrest and prosecute the drunk and drugged drivers

The extra patrols will target roadways in this Township which have a high collision and arrest experience involving drivers under the influence of intoxicating liquor and/or drugs, with the purpose of enhancing the drinking driver's perception of the increased risk of being detected and arrested. The patrols and the checkpoints will be conducted at various locations and at varying times and dates throughout the year.

The patrols and checkpoints will be staffed by police officers on overtime which is one hundred per cent (100%) funded by the "Drunk Driving Enforcement Fund" that receives its financing from surcharges imposed on convicted drunk drivers and the State’s "Bottle Tax".

Safety Belt Enforcement

For the year 2004, Egg Harbor Township Police has received a grant for safety belt patrols. Over the course of the year supplemental patrols will be out

enforcing the  newly amended State law which changed not wearing a seat belt from a secondary offense to a primary offense. Egg Harbor Township Police Department continues to strive for Safe, Sober and Safety Belted Drivers.
